For someone who has only been to the fair once in the past
five years, it is surprising to be back for Day Two. However, I have barely put
a dent in my list and I am determined to try everything on the list before the
end of the fair.
I am happy to report some progress!
Although the Spam booth was out of Spam breakfast sandwiches, I was convinced
to try a couple Spam bites.

The
verdict? Not so bad. A bit on the salty side, especially when dipped in ranch
dressing. I tried the vendor's suggestion of using Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce
and the bites were much better. The cheese filling was barely noticeable, so if
you're going for the cheese, you'll be disappointed.
Next
up was Caprese Salad on a Stick from Countryside Market was a refreshing treat
after the salty and fried Spam bites.

Skewered
sungold cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and rounds of mozzarella were drizzled
with balsamic vinegar and olive oil to make for a healthy choice at the fair.
It wasn't necessarily filling, but it made me feel good for a moment. Pair it
with a chokecherry soda and you'll soon be ready to tackle the unhealthy foods
at the fair.

Finally,
after hearing so much about the John Deere old fashioned ice cream, I had to
give it a try.

Not
only is it a very cool concept, the ice cream is made using John Deere motors,
but the ice cream was actually very good!

The
machines can produce 5 gallons of ice cream in 18 minutes. Considering several
machines are running at the same time, it appears to produce a never-ending
supply of ice cream. Today my choices were vanilla, strawberry, and cookies 'n
crème and I went with the strawberry. I figured I might actually consume one or
two strawberries amongst all the heavy cream!
No more fair
foods for me today, but I will be back next week to cross a few more items off
my list. I'd love to hear your fair experiences. Any thrilling new foods or big
disappointments?
