Bye Bye Storm

Posted by: Chris Shaffer

We will see the snow taper off early in the day Tuesday. The morning commute will be slow again, but we should see improvement by the time most folks head home from work. It will remain a bit breezy.

It is a lighter snow, so it will blow and drift throughout the day. High pressure takes over on Wednesday. That means we will score some sunshine, but the air will be cooler for a few days.

There is a slight chance of flurries on Friday, other than that we remain dry into the weekend. We will warm to near average early next week.

Snowy Start

Posted by: Mike Fairbourne

A winter storm warning and tough travel conditions will greet you Monday morning. This long duration snow event will bring us 6 to 8 inches of snow, but that will be over a three-day period.

Road crews should be able to keep ahead of the snow, making road conditions tolerable. Before this ends on Tuesday, we will add enough new snow to keep smiles on the faces of skiers and snowmobilers.

Once this slow moving storm passes, we will stay close to average in the temperature department. Thursday morning looks the coldest -- close to zero.

Snowy Start

Posted by: Mike Fairbourne

We have already had more snow in the first week of February than we had in the entire month of January. Our monthly total is now at 5.4 inches and we could double that by mid-week.

A long-duration snow event is about to unfold, bringing from 5 to 10 inches of new snow to the state. As this storm dives southeast, it will clip us with up to 6 inches of snow by Wednesday.

Our temperatures that have exhibited extremes over the past month will level off close to average. At least not the swings we have had.

Some Sun Would Be Nice

Posted by: Chris Shaffer

You could leave your sunglasses behind for a few days. We will be pinned under the clouds with more snow arriving later on Sunday and lasting into Tuesday. We will see more accumulation.

Sunday: Enjoy the mild temperatures

Our highs will still be near average on Sunday. The day will start of quiet with snow arriving later in the day. Much cooler next week.

Another Slow Commute

Posted by: Chris Shaffer

The bulk of our storm system will stay well southeast of here hammering the East Coast this weekend. We will deal with light snow throughout the day.

Saturday: A break from the snow action

Expect a cloudy day with afternoon highs near average for this time of year. A good day to get outside and enjoy the snow without freezing.

Sunday: More snow on the way

We haven't been dealing with big storms, just these little nuissance storms. The snow will clear by Monday and our temps will drop below average.

Snow Lovers Rejoice

Posted by: Chris Shaffer

We don't have any whopper storm systems coming, but we will add a fresh coating a few more times in the next week. And temperatures will warm, but stay cool enough to keep our current snow in place.

There will be a chance of freezing drizzle in southern Minnesota early Thursday as warm air arrives. We should see flakes flying here later in the day. It will be snowing into Friday morning.

That could make your drive into work a headache. The snow will taper off during the day on Friday. We settle until Sunday when more snow arrives.

Pretty Quiet Week

Posted by: Chris Shaffer

The first week of February will not feature any whopper snowstorms, nor will we take a polar plunge. Temperatures will warm to above above average by Thursday and stay fairly mild.

We will not see a good deal of sunshine this week. Expect cloudy days with another shot of snow on Friday and Saturday. We are not expecting much accumulation, but something to keep in mind.

We ended January well below average in the snow department and slightly below average with temps. Remember, January is typically our snowiest month.

Warmer Temperatures

Posted by: Mike Fairbourne

February is a month with wide swings in temperature. Groundhog Day in 1996 produced a -36 degree reading here in the Twin Cities. It reached -60 in Tower, Minnesota, which was the coldest ever for the state.

Thankfully we are not looking at that. In fact, a warm up is on the way with temperatures at or above average by the end of the week. A light dusting of snow will greet you as we start the week.

We are also looking for snow late in the week. By the end of the month, our average high temperature climbs to 33 degrees. Spring is on the way!
