About the Authors

Tina MacuhaWorking in radio was Tina Macuha's dream.  In high school, Tina pretended to be on the radio with her homemade station she called K-Mac.  Friends and relatives didn't take her seriously, which led Tina to believe that a job on the air would be an impossible feat.  Her outlook on life changed in 1983 when her mother died from breast cancer.  Her mother always encouraged her to follow her dreams so Tina changed her major for the last time and did just that.

Work it Out with Sandra!

     Results ARE Typical
Over the last few months many of you have emailed and asked if I’ve lost weight. Well…YES! It’s not a topic I like to talk about, but I have never felt better!

When I moved back home nearly 4 years ago, I really packed on the pounds.  I was so excited to be closer to friends and family…being able to meet for lunch or dinner…or both!  Before I knew it, I couldn’t fit into half of my closet!

Example A and B

I thought for sure when Steve and I got in engaged last October that would light the fire under me to start working out. No such luck. For some reason I still couldn’t fit exercise into my schedule.

As we started planning the wedding, I got more and more nervous.  I wasn’t happy with my weight. I hated my arms, my legs and, of course, my stomach.  I went shopping for my wedding dress—it wasn’t pretty. If I wanted to look and feel good on my big day –I needed to make a change.

In February, Courtney did a segment with Sandra Augustin, a local trainer and founder of SASS Fitness. The timing was perfect. Her clients –brave souls—showed before and after pictures. One of her clients lost 80 pounds since she started training with Sandra! Hello! Sign me up! No, really. I called her that day to sign up.

Courtney warned me about Sandra, but I really had no idea what I was in for.  Not only is the workout tough, but so is she.

Hello Hottie!

Any who, I started training two days a week and I have never been so sore. It hurt to lift my arms to wash my hair. It hurt to sit…even walk, but, I saw results after just two weeks.

She is somewhat of a drill sergeant. She will yell if you're doing it wrong, cheating or giving up. She’ll even push your butt up the stairs for not keeping up…no really. Once a week we run up and down the stairs of a city parking lot. One time I started slowing down and she literally got behind me and pushed me up the last flight of stairs.  There are 10 flights of stairs!

At the same time, she is encouraging and supportive, motivating and inspiring. She has also become a great friend.

Ta-daaaaa!
me

After six months I dropped 20 pounds of fat and gained 6 pounds of muscle!!! I am lighter, leaner, stronger, healthier and happier than I’ve ever been. (p.s. Did you see the arms?!!)

Over the last two months I’ve maintained my weight by exercising and sticking to a healthy meal plan.

 Results are typical...
that's her motto and let me tell ya--yes they are!

Sandra put the Good Day guys through one of our weekly workouts this morning—hilarious! Check it out!

If you’re like me and need a little help getting back in shape…here is a fitness tip from Sandra Augustin.

Check back next week for another fitness tip!

If you’re ready to make the commitment to change your lifestyle, give her a call!

Thank you Sandra!!!

4th Annual LUMPIA Contest!!!!

lumpia2009

It's here!!!!!!!!!!!! Many of you have emailed wondering when the Good Day Sacramento 4th Annual Lumpia Contest will be held!  It will be on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, the day before Thanksgiving.  This has been a fun way for viewers to show off their homemade lumpia!

How to enter:  Email me letting me know you want to play and include your own lumpia recipe (the one you will follow and make) so our staff can look it over.  If you are selected, you will get an email confirming you are in the contest.  We get sooo many entries and have to keep it to a dozen or so.  Once selected, you will bring your homemade lumpia, cooked, to a location to be announced (won't be at studio this year).  Make at least a dozen pieces or more - enough for our judges.  Sauces are optional.  Lumpia will be judged on taste, texture and appearance.  One winner will take home the trophy and have bragging rights for the year!

Email me your NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS and LUMPIA RECIPE WITH INSTRUCTIONS to gooddaytina@kmaxtv.com.  Remember you will be contacted IF your recipe is selected.  You will get more instructions and information once we have our competitors.  This is just for fun and not considered a professional contest.  Let's have fun!  Tina

Bog Saget was in the studio just a little while ago to talk about his show tonight at The Crest Theatre in Sacramento.  We know him from "Full House" and "America's Funniest Home Videos" but the comedy show tonight is edgy.  Tickets are $35/$45.  Crest info: http://www.thecrest.com/calendar/expand.cfm?EventID=3263.  Funny guy!  Tina

Got Milk?

We do!!!

Check out our pictures! A couple of students at Sacramento City College asked Tina, Mark, and I to help them out with an assignment...to recreate an advertisement.

They chose those famous "Got Milk?" ads and used us as their mustache models!  Tina's pics have her Thoughts of the Day floating around her which will be more pronounced in the final product.

What do you think?

Graphic design and photography students paired up to do the projects. All the pictures will be displayed in January at Second Saturday at beatnik studios on Broadway and 17th! So you'll get to see the final product then! I'll have all the details for you as soon as I get them!

Thank you to Lori and Kevin for such a great job!

Good Cause on Tuesday Night 11-3-09

I want to thank Matt and Yvette Woolsten, owners of Matteos Pizza and Bistro in Carmichaeln166215058867_1454, for hosting breakfast for some of the viewers that took steps to get their mammograms, stay in touch with their doctors, continue treatment and make powerful decisions about their health.  This Tuesday night, 11-3-09, Matteos will donate part of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program which helps local patients with transportation costs.  Over 800 patients needed assistance this year getting to and from doctor's appointments and treatments.  This Tuesday, we can all help by going to Matteos.  The restaurant opened only 3 weeks ago.  Matteos is located at 5132 Arden Way near Fair Oaks Blvd. in Carmichael.  Thank you Matt and Yvette for all your support!  Thanks to everyone that came out to the breakfast.    Tina
