White House Insider

Posted by Unknown_Blogger

I end up writing about this every year...  But what the heck, it's a cool event... I'm talking about the annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner.  It's a star studded D.C. affair, where the media, Hollywood and politicos all collide...  I have been in the past...  Went as a wide-eyed, wet behind the ears youth when I worked back in D.C.  It felt very cool to be in the presence of so many stars, from so many constellations!

This year it's hosted by Wanda Sykes, from New Adventures of Old Christine...   This year the guest lists are pretty wild...

Here is a list of the CBS guests....

Ben Affleck
Jennifer Garner
Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty and his wife Michelle
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan
New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine
Environmental Protection Administrator Lisa Jackson,
Treasury Department Communications Director Stephanie Cutter
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Hollywood Producer Joe Pichirallo
White House Advisor Tom Donilon
White House Advisor David Jacobson
Press Secretary to Michelle Obama Katie McCormick
President Obama's personal secretary Katie Johnson
Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Michele Flournoy
Argentine Ambassador Hector Timerman

They will be joined by Country Music star Brad Paisley and his wife, actress Kimberly Williams, guests of Chief White House Correspondent Bob Schieffer, a country music artist in his own right. Schieffer met Paisley at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, where they both performed. Also on hand will be Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus of CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine," which co-stars Wanda Sykes -- this year's entertainment for the event -- and Dreyfus' husband, Hollywood director Brad Hall.

He Put The Folk in Folk Singer

Posted by Unknown_Blogger

Legendary folk singer Pete Seeger is 90 years old!   Why do I care?  Well, Pete Seeger is a big environmentalist, as you might expect...  His big cause? Cleaning up the Hudson River in New York...   Well, I grew up along the banks of that river.  Swam in it, sailed on it., and lived to tell...  Back in those days, it was actually a pretty bad scene...  The river was very dirty, and there was a lot of furor over PCB's from the big GM plant that used to sit on the bank of the river...   Pete Seeger helped launch something called, "The Cleawater," a sloop that cruised up and down the river and promoted ecology.  I can remember checking it out and thinking it was really "neat!"   Clearwater is still around... And so, thankfully is Pete!

Click below to see Springsteen at last night's big Madison Square Garden tribute to Pete -- and also for a link to the Clearwater website.

You Swine

Posted by Unknown_Blogger
Ok, I'll use the swine flu as my excuse for the slow pace of my posts since I've been back.  I will admit it has been a crazy week.  The flu, swine, or H1N1, is a tough one to cover...  There has been a lot of debate over it in the newsroom this week.  Trying to balance solid information and coverage without going overboard and sensationalizing things.  Hopefully, things will calm down and we will find out that this is not a very virulent strain.  We hope that our coverage has been helpful and not over the top...

THE CURSE... AND THE SPORTS BRA

Posted by Unknown_Blogger

Could this blog be...  Cursed?  At least when it comes to posts about sports museums?

In the last year I've had posts about two different sports museums...

They both looked really cool...

The LA Sports Museum...

And the Sports Museum of America in New York...

Well, they're both closed...

The LA museum shut down to the public and "may" reopen in the summer...

The Sports Museum of America in New York has filed for bankruptcy....

That's where the Sports Bra comes in....

Massacre

Posted by Unknown_Blogger

Once again, I am remiss... Not having posted for some time.

It's impossible for me not to write about the Covina Christmas Eve massacre.

This story has affected so many of us in profound ways.

The horror is really unmatched

I've seen a lot of horrible news stories in the many years I've been in this business and I am pretty hardened...

Some might say cynical too...

But this one got me...

So many people....

Such a premeditated sinister plot...

So many lives left in the wake...

Imagine how horrible Christmas will be for everyone related to the victims, for as long as they live...

He destroyed that too...

The people who knew Bruce Pardo said they never had any idea who could do such a thing.

Can that be true?

Mustn't such a monster have shown his stripes sometime in the past?

I have to hope so...

Otherwise, it frightens me that there are many more of these monsters out there among us...

Juice, Not On The Loose

Posted by Unknown_Blogger

So this is the end of the OJ saga...

Right?

The Juice is going to the big house...

He'll be in his 70's at the least by the time he's out.

How much more trouble could he get into then?

Plenty, I'm sure...

You know there will be much more to come from this guy.

He can't seem to stay out of his own way...

Something crazy will happen in prison...

It's amazing, the guy led such a charmed life...

Up to a point...

He just never realized that once he beat the murder rap, he was playing on borrowed time...

We'll just have to wait and see what happens next....

Maybe someday -- he'll confess....

Just don't bet on it!

D-I-V-O-R-C-E

You've heard the stats...

Nearly half of all marriages end in divorce.

Apparently, the divorce rate is not actually quite 50%.

The statistics show it is something below that now...

It apparently has a lot to do with age, how long you've been married, etc.'

There's a new calculator which claims to help you figure out if your marriage is a candidate for divorce...

Kind of interesting...
