New Dinosaur

Posted by Dave_Malkoff

newdino by you.

You could crush him with your feet... if you lived in Colorado 150 Million years ago. This is Fruitadens haagarorum, the smallest dinosaur in North America. The tiny dinosaur was just discovered by a team that includes Dr. Luis Chiappe, who runs the Dinosaur Institute at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The team just published their new dinosaur find in the Great Britain's Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

As you can see from the drawing, Fruitadens haagarorum was only 28 inches long and weighed much less than a modern chicken... about two pounds. Although the animal's bones were discovered in the 1970's, all the puzzle pieces didn't come together as one dinosaur until tonight when the journal published the team's findings 'across the pond'.

You can check out the scientists hard at work and see the new dinosaur inside the Dino Lab.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is located near downtown in Exposition Park at 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles. Open daily from 9:30 am to 5 pm; Tickets are $9 for adults, $6.50 for children. For more information, visit the Museum’s website at www.nhm.org or call (213) 763-DINO.

Want to live like John Wayne this weekend? You can at the Lido Yacht Expo in Newport Beach.
The Duke transformed a WWII minesweeper called the YMS-328 into the Hollywood party
spot of her time. John Wayne called it the "Wild Goose" and would cruise everywhere
from Catalina to Spain on the boat with his hollywood friends like Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope,
Ronald Regan & Groucho Marx aboard. Hornblower Cruises & Events now owns the boat.
For the first time in about 15 years, they are offering tours to anyone who buys a ticket to the boat show.

See our complete story tonight on CBS2 NewsCentral at 6PM.

No More Checks?

Whole Foods | Austin, TX by That Other Paper.

Whole Foods Market says personal checks in the check-out line just waste everyone's time. That's why they are experimenting with eliminating checks from three of their stores.
Here's the statement Whole Foods Market emailed to me:

"While our primary intention is to better speed people though the lines, check fraud is on the increase, and that unfortunately makes it more difficult for the remaining customers who prefer to pay this way. To help reduce fraud, we have a several step personal check approval process that can often inconvenience other customers in line. We're looking for a solution that benefits every customer. Cash, debit cards and credit cards can be processed quickly and come with added protections that protect the interests of the consumer and the retailer, and are therefore our preferred forms of payment. The only stores that are participating in this test program are:
6350 W. 3rd Street (at Fairfax), Los Angeles, CA 90036
760 S. Sepulveda Blvd., El Segundo, CA 90245
5120 S. Rural Rd. Tempe, AZ 85282  "

Also, did you know that all Fresh & Easy markets are check-free?

Here's something you may not know about fallen LA County Firefighter Arnie Quinones. He was a tattoo enthusiast. He was even featured on the TLC reality show LA Ink. The episode featured Corey Miller inking a full-back tattoo on Arnie Quinones as a memorial firefighters who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.

Photo: Corey Miller

The artists who worked on Arnie's back and arms were shocked to learn their friend had died on duty like the heroes of 9/11. Arnie Quinones leaves behind a pregnant wife. This weekend, Corey Miller and the rest of Arnie's friends in the tattoo community will hold an all-day tattoo-a-thon to raise money for the firefighter's widdow. You can help out by stopping by American Made Tattoos at 2873 Sierra Hwy., Rosamond, CA 93560 you can call (661) 256-7093 for more info. The event runs all weekend starting at 10AM on Saturday & Sunday.

Here's the email that's been flaoting around about the tattoo-a-thon:
Our good friend Arnie lost his life in the station fire. Myself (Jojo) and Mike Godfrey, karen and others. will be tattooing Saturday, Sept.5th and Sunday, Sept.6th from 10am until there are no more people left to tattoo and giving 100% of the money to Arnies widow and unborn child. If you don't want a tattoo and would like to still make a donation that is also very appreciated. We hope for a huge turn out since we are ready to tattoo all day to help.

Corey Miller did Arnie's backpiece on the show LA Ink. He will be here to share his story and pay respects to Arnie"s family and friends.he mentioned that he could also be selling t-shirts, all the proceeds will go to the Quinones foundation.
There will be additional parking @ wayside cafe, which will be open for food and beverages, as well.
This tattoo benefit is for Arnie to share his love for tattoos, and as a tattoo fan..

PLEASE REPOST!!! AND THANK YOU SO MUCH.
JOJO AND MIKE GODFREY
