Hello Emmy judges! Welcome to my blog. In the interest of transparancy, I thought I'd post my Emmy entry right here, and leave comments open in the hopes that my loyal readers will encourage you to nominate me in the category of Advanced Media - Host/Anchor/Reporter/Personality. Or maybe they'll tell you that I'm a typical TV news blowhard. Who knows.
Here's the homepage for my blog. I have a live webcam at my desk (which has gotten a lot of attention online). I'm an active Twitterer (and have been since 2007). I Facebook. And I do all of this not to be cool (trust me, I'm not). I do mostly for fun, and mostly to make my stories better.
City Pages named me the Best Online Personality for their 2009 Best Of report (and presented the award live at my webcam).I was featured in Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine in February of 2009, talking about using social media to crowdsource my Good Question segments. Mashable featured me in a discussion of Twitter for journalists.
But I'm more into what viewers are saying. I love this blog from Emily sharing how she got a graphic taken down from our website within minutes of me Tweeting about the story.
Brad Rourke said I'm turning "the newsanchor-viewer relationship both on its head and inside-out." It's about connecting with the community, building buzz, and telling great stories. Except when I fail, and then viewers don't hesitate to let me know: like after my story about global warming. Or just in general, a viewer tells me my stories are dumb.
