Welcome to Conversation Nation, the official home of conversation. Ok, truth be told, conversation doesn’t technically have an official home. But our legal department is looking into it. Until then, this is where David, Paula, Robi and Todd bring their thought bubbles to life and welcome you in to discuss whatever’s on your mind.

Furloughs or Layoffs?

Posted by Robi

Thousands of New Hampshire state union workers have spoken. They would rather risk layoffs than take furloughs. NH Governor John Lynch had warned that hundreds of jobs were at risk unless the union agreed to a contract that required 19 furlough days over two years

Last night the union representing 11,500 workers voted to reject the contract proposal, a move the governor says has left him "deeply disappointed. This morning he's preparing to let hundreds of workers go by the end of the month

The governor says the contract would have preserved jobs but the union says he had other options

Should they have taken their chances with furloughs?
