First they got hammered by a huge ice storm, then waited for weeks for their power to come back on. Now five months after that storm Worcester residents are still dealing with the aftermath. Huge piles of wood remain on just about every lawn. Residents were told not to move them.
Clean up was supposed to start yesterday but surprise, surprise, the federal and state government couldn't get their act together. Now frustrated home owners who followed the rules are furious saying the piles of wood are not only an eyesore, they are a safety hazard
Worcester residents were told not to dispose of the piles because of the possible infestation of Asian beetles. FEMA is supposed to pick up three quarters of the tab of the cost to remove the wood, coordinating with the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation. Now Worcester officials are blaming the feds and the state for fighting over who will do what
Homeowners obeyed the rules. Many of them were probably tempted to just hire a wood chipping service to come and remove the eyesore that has cluttered their lawns for five months. They trusted the state and the feds would take care of it. Now they don't know when the piles will be moved
What would you do now? Say the heck with the government and get rid of the wood on your own?
