A 15-year-old girl was gang raped and beaten and robbed (and some of it may have been taped on video) after the homecoming dance at Richmond High School on Saturday night. On school grounds. Let that run over you for a second, even though it is horrible, awful, terrible, and you want instead to run to a web page full of kittens.
A 15-year-old girl was raped by multiple males and beaten unconscious in an alley on her school's own property.
One source says, "the attack lasted at least an hour with passersby joining in the attack or watching as it happened." At school. This happened to this poor girl at school.
I don't even know what to say about this. What can you say about something so horrific, so violating to human life?
From CBS 5:
Richmond police are looking for between four and seven males who
allegedly beat, robbed and gang-raped a 15-year-old girl on the
Richmond High School campus Saturday night, police Lt. Mark Gagan said
Monday.
Investigators believe that as many as 10 people witnessed the attack and failed to stop or report it.
How does this happen at all, let alone on school grounds? How little security for a dance is there that a freaking gang rape can happen for AN HOUR and no one with authority to stop it has a clue? I know money is tight in California for school budgets, but if you can't go to a dance without fear of being raped by many, many males, then cancel the damn dances. How is it that people can stop and watch such an attack at all, much less not report it? It's truly, staggeringly mind-boggling.
Could this be gang activity? Apparently the poor girl knew one of her vicious attackers.
What the hell, people? I'm asking you: What. The. Hell?
Is this a symptom of
rape culture? Is violence against girls and women becoming more and more acceptable in certain circles? I am honestly agape at this news, and cannot fathom how something so brutal could go on for so long after a sanctioned school even on school property.
Chime in, if you can make words out of your disgust. I know it's hard. But perhaps talking about this disgusting, dehumanizing attack will draw more attention to the far too numerous rapes that occur in this country of so-called equality.
