Ed Jew is going to be sentenced to prison today, and whether he'll get a paltry one year or the five years the Feds would like remains to be seen.
Sweet Melissa gives her readers a recap of Jew's crimes and the tall, tall tales he told after getting fingered, and
it's a great way to get caught up on exactly what Jew did:
Jew
was elected supervisor in District 4 in November 2006 and took office
that December; about three months into his tenure, he learned that
several Quickly tapioca stores in his district were in violation of a
formula retail law; Jew explained to the store owners that, for the
bargain price of $80,000, he could tell the Planning Department to fix
the problem.
As
evidence that I am in the wrong business, Jew told the owners that
$40,000 would go to a consultant named Robert Chan, who would handle
the paperwork. (Chan later claimed that was a discount!) The other
$40,000 was supposed to be used to build a playground in Jew’s
district. And by “build a playground” he meant, “put it in my freezer.”

Ed Jew was sentenced to five and a half years behind bars. I suppose that head injury defense didn't take. Please leave your comments on the sentence of 5 1/2 years for the former Sunset supervisor.
