decheung:
[E]ven though the top state income tax bracket is 9.3%, this budget
which the Democratic-majority, Republican-controlled State Assembly
(it makes sense, really) passed indicates that we will now have to
withhold 10%. The extra will be refunded the next year.
Wow.
Really, you can’t tell me that another state has thought of doing this before. This has got to be precedent setting.
Anderson@Large: While California has a $17 billion budget deficit, taxpayers are subsidizing the college education
of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who pay in-state tuition.
Meanwhile, out-of-state citizens pay the higher nonresident tuition at
California’s public universities and colleges.
Paul Hogarth for Beyond Chron:With the state running out of money, and with real consequences
happening to poor people, the Democrats blinked. The legislature passed
an atrocious budget that has $3 billion in cuts to public schools, $1.4
billion in cuts to health and human services—and in a stunning display
of fiscal irresponsibility, borrows $15 billion from next year’s revenues. Schwarzenegger vetoed the budget—putting everything back to square one.[more as I find them]
