Most people I know are pretty tired of hearing about the RNC, the way police handled protesters, anarchists and the news media. But the 7-member commission, appointed by St. Paul's mayor, to review those issues released its report today. It should be of interest to anybody planning for a convention or comparable big event.I was one of several journalists who met with the commission, co-chaired by former U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger and federal prosecutor Andy Luger, to share thoughts about what worked and what didn't during the 4-day convention. I think the report released today will serve as a valuable planning document for journalists and public policy makers in the host cities for the political conventions four years from now. I know it would have been helpful to have this kind of background last summer as we were preparing for the RNC in my hometown.
