Tell me the truth. Do you "google" yourself? Do you have a Google Alert? Should you?
I started Googling myself years ago, and at first I felt it was totally an ego trip. But now I wonder. And some experts are saying that not only is it not an ego trip, but it's critical for people on the job search.
Do you know what's being said about you online? That's tonight's Good Question.
(Incidentally, if you search for me, you get all this.)
Weber-Shandwick just published a research project on this called "Risky Business: Reputations Online." Just 38% of global executives surveyed report Googling themselves! Crazy!
And if you want to really actively manage your online identity, I recommend setting up a Google Alert. You can search for keywords like your name or your company, and have the results e-mailed to you. I have alerts on Google and on Twitter, I take the RSS feeds of those searches and put them into Google Reader.
UPDATE: Since so many of you have asked, here's how you Google yourself. Click on this link (or type Google.com in your web browser) and type your name in the search box. If you have a common name, you may need to add "MN" on to the end of your search.
