The Unintentional WCCO Staffer

In the middle of our coverage last night, storm clouds formed, and lightening started bursting through the sky. As we broadcast through a microwave truck with a mast 40 feet in the air, we had to power down and go off the air.

But I had incredible tape with survivors and heroes from the scene. So photographer Brad Earley edited the tape, and I found a guy named Brian with a bike. Brian had a mohawk and a thick-gauge steel chain around his bicycle, and he knew where WCCO-TV was. I asked him if he could take a tape to WCCO. He didn't hesitate (or ask for money!) ... and he rode towards 11th & Nicollet and got my tape to the station.

About 10 minutes after he rode off, I saw the video on the air. So Brian, wherever you are, thank you!
