Oh dear!
En route to San Diego this past weekend, my pals and I got stuck in a traffic break. We sat for a few minutes chatting with out care, but after about half and hour, they turned to me asking what was up?
"We're experiencing a traffic break," I said, trying to be professional.
A traffic break is when traffic is stopped momentarily to clear the road way or for some other unseen obstacle, hazard or danger.
In this case, our obstacle was an arrest.
We were pretty close to the front of the line to get a glimpse of the activity, and that's what it looked like.
Had I been in the studio, I would have been going bunkers demanding to know why they weren't issuing a Sig Alert.
But you never know exactly what is going on, or how long it's going to take to clear something up.
A Sig Alert is an unplanned lane closure for thirty minutes or more. Sometimes Sig's are issued for accidents that look or sound tough to clear and end up wrapping up before the half hour even rolls around.
Other times, they think they'll clear a situation fast and commuters get stuck for more than an hour.
It's really tough to gauge, sometimes the tow truck gets stuck in the back up, or they need a hazmat team, or the axel gets locked and the vehicle can't be moved. Sometimes, it's a raging or distraught driver that jams us up.
No matter what it is,it happens to us all. Fortunately, traffic is an equal opportunity hater.
Hope you stay clear of its crosshairs.
