All eyes on are the town of Tracy, after an 8 year old girl went missing from the mobile home park where she lived with her family.
Her name was Sandra Cantu, and
she was found, dead, in a suitcase in a body of water near where she was last seen.
Cantu was last known to be walking outdoors inside the mobile home park. It is said she was going to visit a friend.
When the kidnapping and murder of a child occurs people are understandably outraged. They want answers. They want someone to blame.
Police are questioning many people about the murder of Sandra Cantu. No single individual is the primary culprit. Not yet anyway. And when there is no one to lash out against for this horrendous crime, people start to lay blame elsewhere.
Some commenters in online stories have suggested that the 8-year-old should have never been allowed to walk to a friend's house alone. These commenters were quickly admonished for errant blame placed on the girl's grieving parents, but the sentiment--while misplaced--is a natural reaction in the face of such a tragedy.
Are parents in the town of Tracy holding their children closer to them at night? Undoubtedly some of them are. Are parents restricting those same children from simple walks to friends' homes, even when those homes are within the same park or subdivision? Parents, has the disappearance and death of Tracy's Sandra Cantu causing you to rethink how far you let your children wander unsupervised?
