Possible Showers This Week!

So we have had an extremely dry season...as you already know...rainfall totals are well below averages. In some cases more than 6" below average. However, the good news...a slight chance at a shower Friday into Saturday. So here's the deal...the rain chance is good for the Central Coast...and falls off as you work your way down south. Trace amounts for L.A., but more for Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

In the edge today...I mentioned a map of our power grid. It was posted on NPR's website. Take a look at it...it really puts our power use into perspective.

Also I mentioned a washable keyboard...you could literally dunk it into a bucket of soapy water. It's from Firebox.com.

I'll keep you updated on any possible rain.

Happy Monday all! We start the week off with an "inside slider" and a couple more to go...before the next 7 days are done.

During the 2 p.m. broadcast today...I talked about the "60 minutes" story about the Conficker Worm. Here is the link to that broadcast.

Oh by the way...had dinner last night at a fantastic restaurant in Silverlake. It's called Reservoir...fantastic food, quaint setting, and actually kind to the environment. Recycled materials were used in the construction of the building. The menus are printed on recycled paper...and the food is fresh and local. The owners of the restaurant have taken special care in becoming one with the Silverlake neighborhood. Can't reccomend it enough!

Wind advisories have expired for Friday...watch out it could get gusty again on Sunday.

I just found this video at nasa.gov, and it is awesome! We have always had different views of the shuttle during take off...but how about those solid rocket boosters as the come back down to earth.

So That's A Trillion Dollars!

If you've ever wondered what 1-trillion dollars looks like...there is a website that broke it down for us. They actually...used google sketchup to diagram the loot. Here is the link to pagetutor.com. Very cool stuff!

NASA is now offering free peaks of the International Space Station in "real" time. The agency has started a live stream from the space station, however you will not be able to see any of the astronauts. As a way to maintain the bandwidth...the live stream will be available when the space men and women are asleep. Here is the link for NASA.

Portuguese Bend

A stretch of road along Palos Verdes Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes. It was the site of a whaling station in the 1850’s….Staffed by Portuguese whalers.

After running out of firewood to render gray whale blubber into oil…they were forced to abandond the station in the 1880’s. It is one of the most geologically unstable stretches of land in Los Angeles…moving a few inches every year.

Reseda

Reseda is located the western San Fernando Valley…the area was subdivided in 1913 by the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company. The town's first name was Marian. After Harrison Gray Otis’ wife…He was an executive with the company. But the name conflicted with Mariana…another California community. The name Reseda…which translates to “gives comfort” was chosen.
