In this week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, we finally got to see the good witch in action and take center stage. We also were introduced to a new character and got to learn some revealing stuff about the Salvatore brothers. Let’s recap all of last night’s events:

Invasion of the Bodysnatcher
Emily kept continuing to haunt Bonnie in her dreams, and it all had to do with that darned necklace. In a desperate attempt, Damon demanded to get the necklace back and convince Bonnie that he would protect her (psh…you may be pretty, Damon, but we don’t believe that for a second). Bonnie decided to take matters into her own hands, disposing of the necklace into an open field. Later, Bonnie, Elena, and Caroline came together at Elena’s house for a sleepover that soon turned dramatic when Caroline discovered Bonnie’s necklace. The trio held a séance to summon Emily, but the girls got more than they bargained for when Emily took hold of Bonnie’s body. Emily wasn’t doing this to terrorize Bonnie. She had a mission to stop Damon (which I’ll discuss in a bit). This was the first time we’ve seen the three girls come together and bond like this. Up till this point, they’ve each had their own thing going on, but it was nice seeing them band together, even if it was just for a little bit. They need to have an episode where the BFFs have an all-out girl’s night out into town. Now that would be totally fun.

Hot for Teacher
The show gave us some new eye candy to drool over this week. We were introduced to the new history teacher—Alaric Saltzmann (played by Matthew Davis, the hot dude from Legally Blonde). I guess he’ll be filling in the role of the young, suave, and much-admired adult mentor. Immediately, Mr.Saltzmann gave us a good impression, giving Jeremy a second chance to boost his grade. It seems that he’ll be doing more than just teaching, though. Aunt Jenna is lonely and needs a new man in her life and, perhaps, Alaric could step in and be the one. The two seemed to hit it off pretty well. But, wait, is Alaric really as perfect as he seems? First off, I don’t know if I could buy his whole story of why he moved into Mystic Falls. Second, that big ring of his looks awfully similar to the one of the Salvatore bros. Also, he seemed to linger at Aunt Jenna’s door for a bit too long. Could it be…another vampire? Things got really eerie when the supposedly-dead Logan stopped by for a visit. Uh oh! This could spell trouble for Aunt Jenna’s love life. Is this another potential love triangle, involving two vampires? I hope so.

Love and Revenge
This week, Damon’s Diabolical Master Plan was unraveled, as Stefan worked to get the truth out from his brother. We actually got to see the two brothers bond in a very brotherly way through a fun round of booze, darts, and football. Though, I love the constant competitive banter between Damon and Stefan, it was definitely a nice change, seeing the two get along. In a candid moment between the two bros, Stefan revealed that his love for Katherine wasn’t real. Yet, as it turned out, Damon’s love was the real thing, and it was the main reason why he returned to Mystic Falls. He wanted to bring Katherine back from the dead (Yep, she’s still there!) However, in doing so, he would also unleash 27 other vampires. Damon didn’t care, though, because it was all part of his master plan of revenge. The key to his plan was Bonnie’s necklace. Emily, who took over Bonnie’s body, came in to save the day, burning the necklace and eliminating all hope for Damon to revive Katherine. As much as I despise Katherine for her evil ways, I can’t help but feel sorry for Damon and how he’ll never be reunited with his true love.

So much happened in this week’s episode, but next week should get even better with the mid-season finale. Catch The Vampire Diaries on Thursdays @ 8 PM on the CW 44Cable12.

VDHP1.jpg

VDHP2.jpg

VDHP3.jpg

Vampire Diaries: 162 Candles

On this week’s episode of Vampire Diaries, one of Stefan’s agelong friends paid him a visit, but did this mysterious guest spell trouble between him and Elena? Also, Stefan turned 162 years old, and, to help celebrate, Damon threw him a party he’ll never forget. Let’s recap all the events of last night’s festivities:

A Blast from the Past
At first, I didn’t know what to make out of Lexi. It was cool how they brought another female vampire into the mix, but I had my reservations. Who was she? Why did she come to Mystic Falls? Did she have a thing for Stefan? Lexi appeared to be a threat to Stefan and Elena’s reunion, but it was later revealed that she was nothing more than a dear friend. She also turned out to be pretty awesome! Like Stefan, she was one of the good ones, not entirely off the human blood (thanks to her phlebotomist BF that supplied her with IV pouches), but she was definitely making an effort not to cause a disturbance. Just as I was beginning to like Lexi, the rug was pulled from under us, yet again, as Damon fatally staked her. Vicki was killed off last week, but I had no idea that another central vampiress would be put to rest (and so soon!). I wish they had kept Lexi on board for a bit longer, because she was able to get the usually stoic Stefan to loosen up and smile. She was also one of the only people to keep Damon in check, not only verbally, but she was much physically stronger than him, as well. R.I.P. Lexi. We hardly knew ye.

Damon’s Diabolical Plan
We all know that Damon is evil, and we love him for that, but, this week, he took his mean-streak to the extreme. By bringing a supply of verveine and doing his usual smooth-talking, Damon was able to fool Sheriff Forbes into thinking that he was helping out the town council with catching the vampires. Later on in the party at The Grill, Damon quenched his appetite by feeding on one half of a teenage couple who were making out behind an alley. Damon hypnotized the female victim into pointing out Lexi as the culprit, and eventually staked her as a part of his big “diabolical plan.” Well, I guess that was all we would expect from Damon, but he took it way too far when he called Caroline a vapid waste of space. That was just plain mean. Shame on you, Damon, for crushing a fragile cheerleader’s spirit like that! Damon got his dose of karma when Stefan gave him good butt-whipping after learning he was behind Lexi’s death. See, Damon, that’s what you get! (j/k…I can never be mad at that pretty mug of his).

A Feather in Bonnie’s Witch Cap
The cat was let out of the bag when Bonnie confessed to Elena that she was a witch. She performed some nifty magic trick, where she made some feathers float around Elena. When asked why she revealed her secret, Bonnie told Elena that she would never keep anything hidden from her BFF (slap in the face to Stefan!). The scheming duo of Damon and Caroline plotted to take Bonnie’s talisman away from her. However, Bonnie showed that she wasn’t going to take any of their crap, even when Caroline gave her the worst insult one female can give to another by calling her fat. The episode ended with Bonnie waking up barefoot at the cemetery after having some weird and ominous dream. I wonder what that was about?
We’re already 8 episodes into the series, yet we still don’t know much about the fledgling witch. That will probably start to change next week, when we’ll have a whole episode full of Bonnie. Catch The Vampire Diaries on Thursdays @ 8 PM on the CW 44cable12!

162Candles1.jpg

162Candles2.jpg

162Candles3.jpg

Vampire Diaries: Haunted

This week's Halloween-themed episode of TVD did its job of providing a bunch of thrills and chills, but the ending came as a complete shocker! If you're like me, you're probably still reeling from last night's twist, but let's try to grasp all of the events that took place:

Dead, Undead, Dead
I'll admit, in the past few blogs, I've been a wee-bit harsh on Vicki (ok...more like maliciously brutal against her), but I actually felt sorry for the girl when she bit the dust. I never would have guessed they would actually kill off her character, for real this time. I’m surprised they did it so soon. This week, it seemed like Vicki was a completely different character, with new energy and in-your-face attitude. I kind of liked it.

How disturbing was all of that kissing action between Vicki and Jeremy! When she bit Jeremy's lip and licked the blood off, I couldn't help but squirm just a bit. The showdown between Vicki and Elena was exciting, but we all knew who had the advantage, so Stefan had no other choice but to step in and drive a stake right through Vicki. I would've liked to see Vicki's struggles as a vampire for at least a couple more episodes. But, hey, I guess it was for the best (she was starting to get a tad whiny, anyway). Who knows, maybe she'll come back from the dead...again?

Damon Flirts With a Cougar
Even with verveine to protect her from mind control, Ty's mom couldn't help but fall for the charms of Damon (who wouldn’t, right?). Seeing Damon flirt up a storm with Ty's mom was a bit awkward, but then again, Damon is actually a bunch of centuries older than her. After having too much cocktails, and not being able to resist Damon’s allure, Ty's mom accidentally revealed too much information. We learned that, apparently, this mysterious Council is trying to get rid of all the vampires of Mystic Falls and that they have access to a whole stash of verveine (via the recently departed Uncle Zach). Little did Ty's mom know that she was actually talking to the number one enemy. If I were her, I would have probably been distracted by his irresistible charm and gorgeous face, too.

Bonnie’s Origins
Bonnie got to know a lot more about her origins and family history through her grandmother. She was getting antsy because she wanted to learn more about the craft. However, her grandmother insisted that she be patient and learn more about the history first. I'm also getting antsy to see what other abilities that these witches have. I'm also curious about the importance of the amulet. As Damon tried to snatch the amulet away from Bonnie, his hand got burned. What was up with that? Was it the amulet that burned his hand, or has Bonnie tapped into some newfound ability? Anyway, I'm excited to see what else they have in-store for her character.

Just when you thought Elena and Stefan were that close to getting back together, looks like they’ll be experiencing some more trouble next week when Stefan’s old friend Lexi comes to visit. Stefan finally revealed the truth to Elena. We learned about the Salvatore history through a sequence of Civil War-era flashbacks. Best of all, we got to see Damon boogie down with his shirt hanging open. Can’t get any better than that! Let’s touch up on all the new developments from this week’s episode:

A Trip Down Memory Lane
This week’s episode began where the last one left off, with Elena on Stefan’s doorstep, demanding to know, “What are you?” I was worried Stefan would try to make up another lie, but he came right out with it, “I’m a vampire.” Of course, Elena freaked out, and Stefan tried to stop her from running away by using his super speed (psst…Stefan, using your creepy vampire powers after telling her you’re a vampire will not calm her down).

After getting her act together, Elena and Stefan met the next day to set the record straight. They headed on over to the site of Stefan’s former home, where he recounted his story, taking us back all the way to 1864. We were given the Salvatore back story through a flashback sequence taking place in the olden Mystic Falls, Virginia with the brothers dressed up in flashy, old-timey clothes (Shouldn't they have had southern accents?). Apparently, the two bros were like BFFs back then, but their bond was broken by their desires for Katherine.

We learned a great deal about Katherine: she was a huge flirt, she liked to be chased, and, most importantly, she was a vampire (gasp!). She was responsible for their transformation and used her powers of compulsion to control the brothers not to tell anyone. So, we could pretty much blame everything on her. Katherine wanted the three of them to be together forever. I guess what she wanted was a little Salvatore manwich (who wouldn’t?). But as Damon hinted, we didn't get the entire story. There’s still a lot to uncover, like how the brothers decided to feed on human blood, how Katherine died, why Damon blames Stefan, and so much more.

Vicki the Vampire
The best thing that could’ve happened to Vicki happened. Well, okay, probably not the best thing, but definitely the second best thing (the first being writing off Vicki’s character completely). She became a vampire. Did I call it or what? In last week’s episode, Vicki again fell victim to Damon’s bloodsucking. As Damon was about to finish her off, he noticed that she was still alive. “You just don’t want do die, do you?” asked Damon, perfectly expressing what we all were thinking. Damon took her back to his place, made her take a hit of his blood, then used his compulsion to control Vicki’s mind. After some manic, half-naked dancing, the partying somehow turned into a slow-dancing therapy session with Vicki pouring her heart out and crying over Damon’s shoulder. Damon gave the best solution to all her problems—death. And then SNAP, broke her neck. The process of transforming into a vampire doesn't seem all too complicated, basically it goes like this:
Step 1: Drink a vampire’s blood
Step 2: Die
Step 3: Come back to life and drink a human’s blood
I'm excited to see this new version of Vicki. She'll no longer be the victim, she'll be the one kicking butt. Looks like Tyler should expect to get a taste of his own medicine.

The “Lost Girls” ended with Elena calling things off between her and Stefan, but I have a feeling their break-up won't last too long. Remember, the next episode “Haunted” won't be until October 29. Catch The Vampire Diaries on Thursdays @ 8 PM on the CW 44Cable12.

TVD_LostGirls1.jpg

TVD_LostGirls2.jpg

The Vampire Diaries: You’re Undead to Me

In “You’re Undead to Me,” Elena does some investigating to get to the bottom of Stefan’s secrets and Damon finds a way to flee from his cell. Let’s touch up on all the highlights of this week’s episode:

The Great Escape
We all knew Damon was going to escape one way or another. But, the way he went about it was pretty slick. I thought things between him and Caroline would’ve been dunzo by now, (c’mon Caroline, he tried to kill you!), but I guess there’s no way of resisting Damon’s charm, or at least his “power of compulsion.” I guess it didn’t help that the verveine was out of Caroline’s system, either. With that sexy voice of his, Damon lures Caroline into the Salvatore home to open the door of his cell, right as Damon breaks poor Uncle Zach’s neck in the process. Damon is out on the loose, and he’s out for blood! Literally. Stefan had better watch out, since he’s the one who locked up Damon in the first place. Besides getting the girl, this gives Damon even more reason to hate his younger bro. No brotherly love here.

It’s Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus
In this episode, Elena becomes that much more closer to figuring out Stefan’s secret. After a strange, ominous man recognizes Stefan and reveals that he’s known Stefan for 56 years, Elena uncovers a news clip from 1953 about Stefan’s Uncle Joseph getting murdered and happens to spot you-know-who. Elena gets all cynical in her diary, saying that she never was a believer of magic, but all her recent discoveries are changing her mind. A montage of all the clues follows. I’m glad Elena is finally realizing what Stefan really is. I was getting kind of worried that they would drag on her ignorance even further.

Black Magic Woman
Bonnie is a witch you don’t want to mess with! Using her powers to splash water on people and set cars on fire? Very Carry-esque (and we’re not talking about the one from Sex & the City). Even though Bonnie is starting to hone her craft, she still can’t fully control it, and she seems to fall into a trance whenever she does use her powers. Confused over her newfound abilities, Bonnie goes crying to her granny, who consoles her. Bonnie’s grandma seems to give off that I-know-what-you’re-going-through type of vibe, so I’m assuming granny is an experienced witch. I wonder if granny is going to teach Bonnie any new tricks (as if Bonnie needed anymore reason to be dangerous, right?).

Girl, Interrupted
There’s no doubt that Vicki is a hot mess, but who knew it was this bad. Just when you thought that she was starting to change for the better by ending things with that big bully Tyler, the girl sinks to even newer lows, stealing Elena’s pain killers and toking up with her loser friends at the cemetery. Even Jeremy, the druggie himself, questions Vicki’s habits. She also becomes Damon’s victim, yet again, as he takes a big bite into her. Is it me or is Vicki always happening to fall into this cycle of abuse? Poor girl. I wonder what Damon has in store for Vicki. Caroline has been his go-to girl so far, but will he use Vicki in the same way? Wouldn’t it be great if he turned Vicki into a vampire? Sure, she’ll carry on even more destructive behavior, but at least it’ll keep her away from the drugs. Just say no, kids.

This week’s episode ended with a cliffhanger, as Elena stormed into Stefan’s house asking the lingering question, “What are you?” Looks like Stefan has no other choice but to fess up in the next episode. Catch The Vampire Diaries on Thursdays @ 8 PM on the CW 44cable12.

The Vampire Diaries- “Family Ties”

In “Family Ties,” Elena and Stefan begin to experience some trouble in paradise and we find out that an alliance of adults is conspiring against the vampires of Mystic Falls. Let’s look at some highlights of this week’s episode:

Two Can Play That Game
Stefan reveals a different dimension to his character, showing us that he too can get down with Damon’s devious ways. With the help of uncle/nephew Zach and his secret stash of verveine, Stefan cunningly schemes to stop Damon from wreaking anymore havoc on the town. After lowering Damon’s guard, Stefan outwits his older bro by getting him to unknowingly drink verveine through Caroline’s blood, giving Stefan the chance to put Damon on lockdown. Ah, let us revel in that thought of Damon as a personal prisoner. The things you could do. Anyway, it doesn’t look like Damon is held captive for long according to next episode’s trailer. In any case, it was fun watching Stefan’s villainous streak. We knew he had it in him all along!

Some Fight and Bite in Elena
Unlike her flimsy Twilight counterpart, Elena proves that she is more than a passive damsel in distress. She has attitude and spunk, and is not afraid to use it. You go girl!
With doubts planted in her head and the realization that she doesn’t know much about Stefan, besides the fact that he’s really really good-looking, Elena starts to question her picture-perfect relationship. It’s okay, Elena, it’s understandable that Stefan’s good looks blinded your judgment. At least now we know that she’s on the right track to uncovering the mystery behind the Salvatores. Her most feisty moment had to be when she confronted Damon about Caroline’s bite marks and gives him the oh-no-you-didn’t stare-down. I like this new sassy Elena.

Parents Just Don’t Understand... Or So We Thought
In the first few episodes, it seemed that if you weren’t a witch, a vampire, or someone involved with a vampire, then you were either a) going to get killed or b) not very interesting. So, when this week’s episode introduced Aunt Jenna’s old flame and douche-bag newscaster Logan, I began to worry that it would be another kind of situation like the lacking Ty-Vicki-Jeremy love triangle. Boy, was I wrong! It turns out that there was more to Logan than we thought: Logan, along with the senior Lockwoods and Caroline’s cop mom, are in on a little secret. They know about the vampires! Who would’ve ever thought? This revelation about the elders adds an exciting element to the mix, and it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I wonder if there are any other townsfolk involved in this secret society.

The best part of the episode had to be the little jab at Twilight. From the get-go, The Vampire Diaries has been unfairly dismissed as a cheap knock-off of Twilight, but the series is proving the naysayers wrong. TVD is finally starting to make some great plot advancements and really coming into its own. Can’t wait to see what happens next! Catch The Vampire Diaries on Thursdays @ 8 PM on the CW 44cable12!
